Somehow I feel that this is something you know about far better than me ...

If that's not the case, feel free to contact me with any queries and I'll be glad to give it a try on explaining it to you ...!!!

You can fish Portuguese waters with all the byte alarms, latest rigs, special lines, magic baits, etc. etc. but, if you wish, there is no real need for all that, once you'll be dealing with fish that, in most cases, has never been fished before, or ... Ok, maybe once or twice in their younger age ...

What I'll do is to describe the way I fish;

LOCATION
The first thing I do when I want to get some nice fish is to drive to different dams at different times of the day to look for fish activity. I also take my time with a marker rod to look for features, depths, so on.

PRE BAITING
This is something I consider a "must" to get fish feeding in the swim. I like to go out there 4 days before fishing and again 2 days before the "D" day to put some food in the water.

I use on each pre baiting session a mix of something like 20 lbs of a seed mix with hemp, wheat and corn.
All that, of course, soaked and boiled.

I also have other secret seeds and mixes that fish over here just love (and you would love them too if you would see them).

Sometimes I can add either some Betaine, Milk, Salt, Suggar, Olive Oil ...
But the results are not much improved (but the cost of the mix surely is).

I also throw in something like 10lbs to 20lbs of 20mm boilies.

Note: The amount of bait I put in depends on the time of year and fish size aimed for.

RODS
I use 2 (you're only alowed to fish 2 rods per angler) NASH XTREME PURSUIT 13' rods standing on a rod pod or bank sticks.
Then I use a NASH PURSUIT 13' 3 1/2 Lbs as a Marker Rod and I'm waiting for the new Venom Spod Rod to make the Spod fly ...

REELS
One on each rod .... No need for big, big, reels. A reel that takes about 250 yds of 15 lbs line is more than enough. Most of the big fish I get I only cast about 20yds to 50yds out.
If I need to cast far ... Then I have my Big Pit reels ...!!!

LINE
I use 15lbs and 20lbs braid but I always add about 15yds to 20yds of 20lbs to 30lbs mono to keep it softer when the fish is close to the bank.
Sometimes I prefer to use 10lbs to 15lbs mono with a tapered shock leader for distance casting.

LED
Inline led at alltimes ... I just like it that way ...!!! But if I need distance casting ... Helicopter !!!

HOOK
Number 2, 4, or 6 hook on a 10" long, 20lbs braid or 15lbs mono with a standard Knotless knot hair rig.

BAIT
10mm, 15mm or 20mm boilies or Corn ... or some other personal secret baits ...!!!

LANDING NET
Nice to land 30+, 40+ or even 60+ fish ...

UNHOOK / WHEIGTING MAT / SCALES / CAMERA
Those are the last (but very important) things you need to land the fish and to ... remember it !!!

MISCELANEOUS
Umbrela, bivvy, chair, stove ... Anything that will make me a more confortable journey will be wellcome !!!
